God’s Hornets
And I will send hornets before thee, which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite, from before thee. Exodus 23:28
What the hornets were we need not consider. They were God’s own army which He sent before His people to sting their enemies and render Israel’s conquest easy. Our God by His own chosen means will fight for His people and gall their foes before they come into the actual battle. Often He confounds the adversaries of truth by methods in which reformers themselves have no hand. The air is full of mysterious influences which harass Israel’s foes. We read in the Apocalypse that “the earth helped the woman.”
Let us never fear. The stars in their courses fight against the enemies of our souls. Oftentimes when we march to the conflict we find no host to contend with. “The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.” God’s hornets can do more than our weapons. We could never dream of the victory being won by such means as Jehovah will use. We must obey our marching orders and go forth to the conquest of the nations for Jesus, and we shall find that the Lord has gone before us and prepared the way; so that in the end we will joyfully confess, “His own right hand and his holy arm, have gotten him the victory.”

Prayer
Lord God,
We praise You that all is well. With great faith we make this declaration because You alone are Sovereign, Almighty, and All-powerful. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4:16).
Father, we are in a time of great need. We need You. We need Your justice, truth, and righteousness to blanket our nation. In Your Providence, send hornets to destroy the pervasive and audacious enemies among us. Oh Jesus, do not delay!
Empower us with Your Spirit. Let us take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. And to that end keeping alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints” (Ephesians 6:17b-18).
We know and believe that we can do all things through Jesus Christ Who strengthens us (Philippians 4:13). Therefore, help us even more as we pray to be spiritually equipped:
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Ephesians 6:10-13
Let us encourage one another to stand firm and not back down, even as You have encouraged us by Your Word.
And for Jesus’ sake, purify the bride of Christ, that we may be efficacious witnesses to the victory of the Risen Christ and in all things, give glory to Thee, Heavenly Father.
In the everlasting Name of Christ Jesus, Amen.
