The Turning Point of Psalm 73: Scriptural Comfort in Dealing with the Assassination of Charlie Kirk
The PAGA Staff cannot tell you the range of emotions experienced since last Wednesday, September 10, 2025. As the world is aware, Charlie Kirk became a victim of a leftwing political assassination. Moreover, Charlie Kirk became a martyr for his Christian faith.
Remembering Charlie Kirk
I first heard about Charlie Kirk in 2016 while scrolling through Twitter. Among other issues, he often posted articles and biographies on far-left professors—grown-ups indoctrinating the minds of children. These posts were intended to bring awareness to parents, students, and American taxpayers at-large. Specifically, to inform Americans that these overpriced colleges (who enjoy taxpayer money and receive tax benefits) were hiring people to teach American children to hate America, to hate America’s founding, to denigrate the Founding Fathers, to deride Christianity, and to discredit America’s Christian founding and the Judeo-Christian values of Western Civilization. These professors were, and are, anti-American, anti-Christian, and anti-White.
Over the years i have kept up with Charlie’s career, the Turning Point organization that he founded and built, and his unapologetic defense of American exceptionalism, Christian values, strong families, and most of all, his love of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Charlie Kirk is one of a kind. A person like him only comes around every so often.
Charlie Kirk And The Leftist Politically Motivated Assassination
Since the evil and senseless assassination of Charlie Kirk, emotions around here have ranged from extreme sadness to extreme anger and everthing in-between.
- Anger at leftist media and politicians who continually foment this type of violence through their lies, propaganda, and constant mantras of “Hitler! Hitler! Nazi! Nazi!” etc.
- Anger at the leftist Antifa mobs who are so brainwashed, seemingly beyond help.
- Anger at the DOJ, FBI, and Congress who do nothing about the mobs nor the constant incitement of violence by mainstream media, Hollywood types, university professors, and Democrat politicians.
- Anger at the shooter for being so evil, arrogant, and demented.
- Anger at the shooter’s parents for raising such a demon and unleashing him onto the world.
But, by far, the evil, demonic leftists—wokists, marxists, islamists–who mocked and celebrated Charlie’s death enraged everything within me. The indecency! The depravity! The debauchery of these diabolical reprobates! Why Charlie? Why a good person like Charlie? Why can’t one, or two, of these perverse, leftist fiends—who have no purpose and do NO GOOD in the world—why can’t they have hot projectiles hitting their neck?
Psalm 73:16-17 – From The Wide Way Back to the Narrow
Then Psalm 73:16-17 came to mind—you know when the mind veers off the narrow way and enters the wide way, and the Holy Spirit breathes Scripture straight into your heart to get you back on track?
When I thought how to understand this,
It was too painful for me—
Until I went into the sanctuary of God;
Then I understood their end.
Psalm 73:16-17, NKJV
Immediately, I lifted my face to God in the glory of His sanctuary. And I felt a rush of sorrow toward the mockers and celebratory leftists. I felt a sadness for their self-loathing. They hate themselves, that is why they hate others. That is why they act like utter buffoons in the wake of the tragic death of a 31-year old husband and father.
Charlie Kirk is young, popular, effective, successful, a devoted Christian, and he loves America, his home and birthplace. These old, unpopular, ineffective, unsuccessful, atheistic, self-loathing leftists stand antithetical to everything Charlie loved. Their jealousy and envy are on full display.
The Turning Point of Psalm 73
I grabbed a commentary off the shelf and read through Psalm 73.
The Psalmist ponders why evil and wicked people prosper, why they get away with everything. And he asks himself, why does it even matter if I serve God or not, what has it gotten me?
Then he experiences the overwhelm of “entering the sanctuary of God and understanding their end” (Psalm 73:16-17).
The commentary then refers to Psalm 73:18-20 as the “turning point” of the entire Psalm.
I gasped.
The psalm is a prayer arising from anguish on account of the freedom of the wicked. The psalmist deals with his emotions until disorientation brings him to a reorienting vision. The belief in God’s justice (vv. 18-20) is at the heart of the psalm. It is the turning point (pivot) and accounts for the shift (vv. 21-28). The psalmist experiences a new sense of joy and freedom when reflecting on the joy of fellowship with his God. The problem of the suffering of the righteous has no clear resolution, but the “pain” is relieved by the experience of God’s living presence (emphasis mine). (1)
First, the author had to get his perspective right, i.e. 73:16-17, “Until I went into the sanctuary of God; Then I understood their end.” Then came the turning point of the Psalm, the assurance of God’s justice:
Surely You set them in slippery places;
You cast them down to destruction.19 Oh, how they are brought to desolation, as in a moment!
They are utterly consumed with terrors.20 As a dream when one awakes,
So, Lord, when You awake,
You shall despise their image.
Psalm 73:18-20, NKJV
After the Psalmist sees the glory of God, he discerns the end of the evil and wicked. Set against the panorama of God’s glory, he remembers that God is just. The leftists—wokists, marxists, islamists—“in the end [the] evil [are] not and never will be victorious.” (1)
Evil will certainly be judged. The “when” is not as important as the assurance that one day they shall meet a just God.
Psalm 73 ends with the writer confessing his sinful thoughts (God kept him from falling, i.e. being judged), and he praises God.
Pray Psalm 73
Are you having a hard time mentally, emotionally, and/or spiritually dealing with the assassination of Charlie Kirk, and the vitriole and hatred of leftist media, ideologue professors, Democrat politicians, and other evil and wicked people in the world?
Pray the prayer of Psalm 73. Memorize all of it, especially vv. 16-17. When evil gets to you, say vv.16-17 out loud, and remember—God is just.
Refocus your perspective on our Lord God.
Feel sorrrow for the left because their end is hell.
Pray for them, as Jesus commanded. Ask Jesus to help them to be set free from satan’s gnarly grasp.
Pray for the shooter’s parents. They, too, have lost a son.
Prayer For Charlie Kirk Family and Friends
Our Precious Lord and Savior,
Thank You that Charlie rests peacefully and lovingly in Your arms. It is comforting knowing he is there with You. Still, in Your great mercy, grant us comfort to endure this senseless and violent loss to our nation.
Thank You for being with his widow, Erika, and for her strong faith. Thank You for watching over Charlie’s two little children who have had their Dad, and such a great Dad, taken away so early. Be with his parents. Oh what a horrible loss for them, the son they have poured so much love into. Oh Jesus, comfort all of Charlie’s family and friends with only the comfort that You can give. Grant them the peace that passes all understanding. Guard their hearts and mind in Jesus Christ (Philippians 4:7).
We are not as others who have no hope, for just as Jesus died and rose again, even so, when He returns, God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. And on that grand last day, we all shall be caught up together with those who have gone before us in the clouds to meet the Lord (1 Thessalonians 4:13-14, 17). God, we praise You for Your goodness. All glory unto Thee!
In the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.
But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
