Father Frank Pavone Prays For Our Nation: January 13, 2021
Skip to prayer.
Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests For Life, appeared on Steve Bannon’s War Room Pandemic on January 13, 2021, to pray for our nation. The prayer is as relevant today as it was earlier this year.
PAGA’s Prayers In History Category
Father Pavone’s prayer is posted under PAGA’s Prayers in History category. This section exhibits the history of great American political and religious leaders prompting our nation to pray in times of both crisis and blessing. We need only to think of:
- Lincoln’s call to prayer and fasting on August 12, 1861, only 4 short months after the first shots of the Civil War;
- FDR’s famous radio address on June 6, 1944, in which he prayed for our troops who were, unbeknownst to our citizens, in the process of storming the beaches of Normandy;
- President Donald J. Trump’s call to prayer on March 15, 2020 for Americans affected by coronavirus and our national response efforts.
Likewise, we can read “what isn’t there.” Some of America’s darkest periods are accompanied by the abject failure of national political and religious leaders to step up and pray for our nation. Such is the darkness we have been experiencing since the dreadful day of January 20, 2021.
Prayers In History prayers have a historical context, but prayer also transcends historical circumstances. After all, our prayers are prayed to the Eternal One. This is especially true of the Psalms. Several of these prayers have a historical note at the beginning, but the majority do not. In the scriptural text of the Psalms themselves, no indication is given for the situation prompting David, Asaph, etc., to pray. These prayers are meant to be prayed by all of God’s people at all times. This is possible because of prayer’s transcendent nature and because of Him Who hears and answers prayer.
Likewise, Father Pavone’s prayer from January 2021. We can remember the devastation of the early days of 2021, the political theatre, deception, cowardice, lies, threats, confusion, disappointment, lawlessness, propaganda, and perhaps most of all, the darkness. In a word—chaos. But as this prayer reminds us: “The light shines on in the darkness. The darkness does not, cannot, will not overcome it.”
Therefore, use this prayer, along with all prayers in the Prayers In History category, to lift up our nation daily.
The positive nature of godless national leaders is that it prompts more denominational leaders, local leaders, and citizens to step up and pray. Paul heralds prayers having many participants. Since a multitude of people are praying, God gives more answers. Morea answers from God increases the blessing, and most of all, increases the praise to God.
Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead. 10 He delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will deliver us again. 11 You also must help us by prayer, so that many will give thanks on our behalf for the blessing granted us through the prayers of many. 2 Corinthians 1:9-11
For it is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God. 2 Corinthians 4:15
Thank you for praying for our nation. It is the #1 thing we can do to save America.
Prayer
Father,
We come before You on this day for our nation.
Lord, we ask You to enlighten our minds. Help us to see that You are with us in this battle. Help us to see that you are calling us constantly for the victory of truth, for the victory of justice. Lord, Your providential hand has been on this nation since its beginning and it has not left us today.
And we thank You for the gift not only of this nation, but of this President [Trump] who has so often reminded us that our faith is not in government but in You, oh God. That the American way is not one of bureaucracy but rather of family and of our values.
We praise You Lord God for the list of accomplishments of this president that is longer than we can keep track of. And we ask that as we continue to serve You and Your kingdom that we will take up our part in educating our children, our grandchildren, and all our fellow citizens in what it means to be an American, in what it means to lead; and that we will use the example of this president and of his accomplishments to inspire one another to continue making America great.
We thank You Father for your grace and we thank You for the spirit and the determination to fight.
The light shines on in the darkness. The darkness does not, cannot, will not overcome it.
And it is in that spirit, Lord God, that we commit ourselves again, to continue to work for America and for You.
We pray all this through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
