March 29, National Vietnam War Veterans Day: Honoring Our Vietnam Heroes
Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017 Signed Into Law
In 1967 nearly 500,000 American troops served in South Vietnam. Fifty years later, President Donald J. Trump signed into law the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017, which reads:
On Tuesday, March 28, 2017, the President signed into law:
S. 305, the “Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017,” which encourages the display of the U.S. flag on March 29, National Vietnam War Veterans Day.
A Prayer Dedicated To Our Vietnam Heroes
Father,
Provide for and protect the families of our armed forces. Preserve marriages; cause the hearts of the parents to turn toward their children and the hearts of the children to turn toward the fathers and mothers. We plead the blood of Jesus over our troops and their families.
Provide a support system to undergird, uplift, and edify those who have been left to raise children by themselves.
Jesus has been made unto these parents wisdom, righteousness, and sanctification.
Through Your Holy Spirit, comfort the lonely and strengthen the weary.
Father, we are looking forward to that day when the whole earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.
In Jesus’ name, amen.

Presidential Proclamation Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War
November 10, 2017
In a speech given in November 2017, President Trump acknowledged March 29 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day, and its continuing recognition throughout the 13-year commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War, and every March 29 thereafter. Here are some excerpts:
Today, I lead our Nation in somber reflection as we continue the 13-year Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War that began in 2012. We salute our brave Vietnam veterans who, in service to our Nation and in defense of liberty, fought gallantly against the spread of communism and defended the freedom of the Vietnamese people.
To ensure the sacrifices of the 9 million heroes who served during this difficult chapter of our country’s history are remembered for generations to come, I signed into law the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017, designating March 29 of each year as National Vietnam War Veterans Day. Throughout this Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War, and every March 29 thereafter, we will honor all those who answered our Nation’s call to duty. We vow to never again confuse personal disapproval of war with prejudice against those who honorably wear the uniform of our Armed Forces. With conviction, our Nation pledges our enduring respect, our continuing care, and our everlasting commitment to all Vietnam veterans.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby confirm the commitment of this Nation to the Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War, which began on Memorial Day, 2012 and will continue through Veterans Day, 2025.
Vietnam Veterans – Never Forget. Several members of the Rolling Thunder, Inc. and Patriot Guard Riders bow their heads in prayer during a parade honoring SFC Donnie Shue who went Missing in Action during the Vietnam War, and who was identified nearly 42 years later as having been Killed in Action, and who was being returned to his family and his home town. Rolling Thunder, Inc., Patriot Guard Riders and others attend memorial services for POW-MIA-KIA military veterans and first responders to pay their respects to the fallen heroes and their families.
50th Anniversary Of The Vietnam War
As stated above, the 13-Year Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War began on Memorial Day, 2012 and will continue through Veterans Day, 2025. The 13-years commemorated are 1962-1975.
The last U.S. combat troops left on March 29, 1973. On April 30, 1975, the last few Americans, contractors, embassy staff, etc., still in South Vietnam were airlifted out of the country as Saigon fell to communist forces. The famous photo of the Black Hawk helicopter lifting from the top of the embassy was taken in 1975.
