Pray Psalm 64: Prayer For Protection From Enemies
The Psalms, together with the prophets, long for God to swoop down and terrify the enemy forces. And one thing remains as certain today as when the Psalms and prophets were first written. When Yahweh comes to deliver, nothing can stand in His way.
When Yahweh comes to deliver, nothing can stand in His way.
Divine Providence
In Israel’s great history, the nation experienced more than its fair share of needing rescue. Controlling the little strip of real estate connecting Asia Minor and Egypt meant control of the main trade routes connecting two continents. Whoever controlled this land would become extremely wealthy (cf. 1 Kings 10:27-29).
Not much has changed except that trade routes are no longer the central contention. Israel is practically encapsulated by enemies. Who could live in this land except for the fact of Divine Providence?
Like Israel, America has been extremely blessed. Our Founders boldly declared that we are all endowed with the same divine rights — given [to] us by our Creator in Heaven. They enshrined this divine truth in our founding documents to serve as a promise and an ideal for future generations of Americans.
Yet within our shores, violent, destructive, and murderous domestic terrorists indoctrinated with the satanic ideology of Marxism, want to destroy America. The motivations are simple yet complex. But in their most basic form, they are hatred, jealousy, callousness, entitlement, and an insatiable appetite for power. Who could live in this land except for the fact of Divine Providence?
Mighty Acts Of God
The Psalms, the Word of God written for all God’s people for all time, are filled with prayers, cries, petitions, and praise imploring the Sovereign Lord for protection, deliverance, and victory over enemies.
The history of redemption reveals the “works of God” in judgment of rebellious human beings. The story of redemption proclaims the mighty acts of God. Meditation on what God has done deepens our knowledge of God. This wisdom becomes a powerful and ever-present comfort. The godly learn that the Lord of history will vindicate them.
Our Lord is all we need, regardless of the adversity in life.
Prayer
Almighty God,
We praise Your wonderful Name from this day and forever more. You are all we need, regardless of the adversity in life.
As Your people, we long for Your redemption. We long to see Your mighty acts on our behalf. Our God, You are “able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and You will deliver us out of the hand” (Daniel 3:17) of violent thugs and goons and their reprobate leaders and funders. But even if You don’t, we want to make it clear (Daniel 3:18) that we will continue to trust and worship You, knowing “that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).
Lord Jesus, until that glorious Day unlike any other, we give thanks that Your redemption extends to all aspects of our well-being, reconciliation, forgiveness, communion with God, freedom, and the glorious experience of unrestrained and joyous celebration of being the children of God. “Thank You” seems inadequate. Yet, we are Your children and know that You accept the pittance we are able to offer to such a magnificent, wonderful Creator and loving Father!
“Teach me your way, O LORD, and lead me on a level path because of my enemies. Do not let me fall into their hands. For they accuse me of things I’ve never done; with every breath they threaten me with violence. Yet I am confident I will see the LORD’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living” (Psalm 27:11-13).
Father, America’s domestic enemies are countless, like a severe locust plague they have ruined so much, while they seek to destroy everything. They are unable to live peaceably with people who have viewpoints and beliefs that do not adhere to their godless and warped view of life.
[Psalm 64] Almighty God and Sovereign Lord, protect us from our enemies.
O God, listen to my complaint. Protect my life from my enemies’ threats.
2 Hide me from the plots of this evil mob, from this gang of wrongdoers.
3 They sharpen their tongues like swords and aim their bitter words like arrows.
4 They shoot from ambush at the innocent, attacking suddenly and fearlessly.
5 They encourage each other to do evil and plan how to set their traps in secret. “Who will ever notice?” they ask.
6 As they plot their crimes, they say, “We have devised the perfect plan!” Yes, the human heart and mind are cunning.
7 But God himself will shoot them with his arrows, suddenly striking them down.
8 Their own tongues will ruin them, and all who see them will shake their heads in scorn.
9 Then everyone will be afraid; they will proclaim the mighty acts of God and realize all the amazing things he does.
10 The godly will rejoice in the LORD and find shelter in him. And those who do what is right will praise him. [Psalm 64, NLT ]
